The Structure of Openings

There are 4 types of structures for film opening:

1. A narrative opening with the titles running throughout

This opening of this movie uses the setting, the music and the type of lightning to set the mood. For example, the lightning in the movie Shining starts to become dark and gloomy, which indicates something sinister might happen.

2. A discrete title sequence

A discrete title is normally fast pace sequence with special effects and transitions added to it.For example,  the musical score of this movie sets the mood. There are lots of clips in this opening scene that have been montaged. 

3) Titles over a blank screen

The introduction of the casts and the crew runs over a black screen.
