Evaluation Question 1

This is the side by side comparison of our title opening and spiderman 2 title opening on Camtasia. We tried to follow this opening in our own film opening.

The convention of a film opening, tells the audience many things.

  • Title sequence. It introduces the key characters and the people behind the making of the movie.
  • After the title sequence, the location/settings is introduced.
  • The opening of the movie sets the mood and tone.
  • The film opening normally leaves unanswered questions - "enigma". This leaves the audience in suspense and they crave to watch it more.

Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Films usually open by showing the production and distribution logo video. In that order, we have done so as do most films.
Title sequences is something which is shown through out the opening scene of a film. Giving early credits to the director to some of the actors as well as the editor. There is a convention in title sequences  although if you look at films, you find them to be similar but sometimes rearranged in different places. I have compared mine to "Reservoir Dogs" title sequence.

Evaluation Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

When we chose what film we are going to shoot and when we finalised it with our teacher, we started to think about the locations, costumes, props, and the title of the film.

Mise en scene?

For costume, we have decided to go for something new, fresh and sleek. The way we have done this is by using the Guy Fawkes mask, well known to the public, also known as the "V for vendetta mask" and "anonymous". We also had somebody wearing a gasmask and a hat which may bring out a whole new urban trend for events such as halloween etc. We decided to go use these because we wanted the two masked guys identity to be unknown to the audience.
We wanted the protagonist to look a bit scruffy and give him a teenage look by making him wear a hoodie, jacket and a tracksuit. This will be significant because this will tell the audience more about the character.

For props, we had a kunai and a coke can that we used in our film. We used the kunai as a weapon for the guy with the Guy Fawkes mask and we used the coke can as a leftover for the protagonist to drink after he wakes up.

Location

After a lot of suggestion from the members in the group, we have decided to shoot the first part of our film in Victoria Park in Bethnal Green. We chose this location because we believe it is a suitable place for shooting and we wanted an isolation area. We were able to shoot the film in a bright day where it was sunny and clear and this gave us an advantage because we didn't need an umbrella.
For the second part of the film, we decided to shoot it in a bedroom because our storyboard included the protagonist waking up from a bad nightmare. The lightning there wasn't that great but we were able to get a suitable footage.

Actors

We don't have any famous actors which attract a wide population of fans. Although we had some popular people amongst college students, acting in the film, who can spread it around to a large group of friends.

Benjamin 'Benny' our college actor.
We decided we should act the two guys in the masks because we felt the need of participating in our film and making sure everything goes to plan. Hussain played the guy with the gas mask and Zack played the guy with the Guy Fawkes mask.

Storyline

Our interesting storyline with a complex plot meant that it'll be spoken about amongst social groups, about "What could happen", "What if?" or even "Imagine it was real?!". A psychological thriller and mind twisting film which not only makes you think, but makes you intrigued to see what happens next, what will the victim do, what will happen at the end? The story leaves you questions which gets answered during the film until the end, where infact you decide what may or could've happened.

Genre

The genre of the film is a psychological-thriller which may attract different audiences, from teenagers to even older group ages of 25- 30 year olds. We categorised this as psychological thriller because this movie can play with the audience minds. We want the audience to get involved and make them think what will happen next.

Action

The action within the film is used to attract the male audience, the killing, the explosions, confusion, detective work , mystery and gun fire but they are kept to a minimum so that it does not get classified as a action thriller.

Consider the rough cut feedback and how did it help improve your film in order to appeal to a wider audience?
