What is intertextuality?

It is an idea that any text (which is anything that can be read or seen in the case of movies) has been influenced and shaped by texts that have come before it.

How has Psycho (1960) influenced other thriller genre films?

The movie Psycho has influenced other thriller films. The use of the sound and the props has made other directors borrow this concept and use this in their movie. The famous shower scene in Psycho is a major influential to other thriller movies due to the fact that the sound and the props build up tension until the point where the victim is attacked by the murderer.

The knife that is used in Psycho to kill the woman and how it is used is the 1st influential prop to other thriller movies. The murderer sneaking up to its victim is the 2nd influential thing. The murderer is usually not known and it is kept in secret until the very end.




The shower curtain is the 3rd influential thing to other thriller movies. The victim usually pulls down the shower curtain from its place to show the pain and agony.















The shower running and the showing of the bathtub where the victim lies dead is the 4th most influential thing.
